ReelDown separates major Instagram media types into focused pages. Videos, Reels, photos, Stories and carousels can have different URL structures and workflows, so one generic answer is not always appropriate.
This page is ReelDown's central support resource. It answers common questions and points visitors to the page that owns the relevant topic.
What is ReelDown?
ReelDown is an independent Instagram media tools and guidance website focused on supported public content. It is not Instagram, Meta or an official Instagram support service.
Do I need a ReelDown account?
The current public ReelDown website does not require a ReelDown account to read its tools, guides or support information.
Does ReelDown support every Instagram link?
No. ReelDown does not claim universal compatibility. Interactive backend processing is still being integrated and verified, and compatibility depends on the URL and media type.
Supported Instagram URLs
A common source of problems is submitting the wrong type of URL. A profile, Reel, Story, video post, photo and carousel are not interchangeable media sources.
Which URLs should I use?
Start with the Supported URLs page. It explains the public URL formats ReelDown is designed around.
Can you download Instagram videos?
Public Instagram video links belong on the Instagram Video page. ReelDown currently documents and prepares that workflow while backend integration is being completed. It does not claim that every Instagram video can already be processed.
Where should I use an Instagram Reel link?
Use the dedicated Instagram Reels page. Reel-specific audio and quality questions are covered by ReelDown's focused Reel guides.
Where should I use an Instagram photo link?
Use the Instagram Photo page. Photo quality and resolution questions are covered separately from the generic photo-tool intent.
Where should I use an Instagram Story link?
Use the Instagram Story page. Stories are time-sensitive and should not automatically be treated like standard feed posts.
What if a post has several photos or videos?
Use the Instagram Carousel page. Multi-item posts can contain several separate media items.
Downloads and File Locations
Getting a media result and finding the finished file are two separate steps. Your browser and operating system control the final storage location.
Where do downloaded Instagram Reels go?
On iPhone, check Safari downloads and the Files app. On Android, check Downloads, Files, Gallery or your browser's recent downloads. On Windows or Mac, check the browser's configured Downloads folder.
Why is the file not in my gallery?
A browser download may first appear in Files or Downloads rather than Photos or Gallery. Check the browser's recent downloads before repeating the request.
Is saving a post inside Instagram the same as downloading it?
No. An in-app saved item is different from a local media file stored on your phone or computer.
Are Instagram saves private?
Instagram's own Save feature is separate from ReelDown. Platform behavior can change, so current questions about visibility of Instagram's in-app saves should be checked against Instagram's current controls and help information.
Safety and Privacy
A normal public-link workflow should be understandable and should not unexpectedly require sensitive Instagram account secrets.
Is an Instagram downloader safe?
Safety depends on the specific service and its current behavior. Check HTTPS, privacy information, the requested permissions and whether a service unexpectedly asks for account credentials.
ReelDown's public-media guidance does not require an Instagram password, one-time login code or session cookie for an ordinary public-link workflow.
Does ReelDown need my Instagram password?
No password is required to read or use ReelDown's current public-media guidance. Do not provide sensitive account credentials merely to work with a public media URL.
Can ReelDown bypass a private Instagram account?
No. ReelDown does not present itself as a method for bypassing private profiles, Close Friends restrictions, authentication requirements or other access controls.
Does Instagram notify when you download a Reel?
ReelDown does not make a universal claim about Instagram's current notification behavior because platform behavior can change. ReelDown also does not control Instagram's notification system.
Media Quality
Real file properties matter more than a marketing label. A service cannot recreate native source detail that was not available in the media it received.
Does ReelDown guarantee HD or 4K?
No. ReelDown does not guarantee a fixed HD, Full HD or 4K resolution for every source. Available quality depends on the media source and current processing support.
Does original quality mean the creator's camera file?
Not necessarily. A public Instagram media source should not automatically be described as the creator's untouched camera master or private upload original.
Can a downloader create better source quality?
Increasing dimensions does not recreate genuine detail that was absent from the accessible source.
Does a computer give better quality than a phone?
Not automatically. The device mainly changes file handling and storage. The available source determines the meaningful quality ceiling.
Troubleshooting
If a workflow fails, check the URL and media type before repeatedly submitting the same source.
Why is my Instagram downloader not working?
Common causes include an incorrect URL, the wrong media workflow, unavailable content, non-public content, platform delivery changes or a feature that the current backend does not yet support.
Start with Supported URLs and then choose the matching media page.
Why can't I save videos on Instagram?
Availability can depend on the specific media and the platform's current behavior. If your goal is a permitted local file, first confirm the exact public video URL and whether the workflow supports that source.
Why does a profile URL not work like a post URL?
A profile identifies an account rather than one specific media item. Media workflows normally need a URL that identifies the actual post, Reel, photo, Story or carousel.
What if the wrong media appears?
Stop before saving the result and verify the source URL. The returned media should correspond to the item you intended to use.
What if my URL is not supported yet?
Check the supported URL guidance and use the matching media page. Do not submit passwords or attempt to bypass access controls.
iPhone, Android and Computer
Can I use ReelDown on iPhone?
ReelDown's public site can be opened in an iPhone browser. File handling depends on Safari or your selected browser and the current iOS storage workflow.
Can I use ReelDown on Android?
ReelDown's public pages can be opened in an Android browser. Downloads, Files, Gallery and browser history are common places to check for local files.
Can I use ReelDown on Windows or Mac?
Yes for ReelDown's public web pages. Desktop browsers normally use a configured Downloads folder or another destination selected by the user.
Do I need to install another app?
ReelDown is browser-based. Read the Instagram no-app guide for the dedicated browser/no-installation topic.
Copyright and Permission
Does downloading media give me copyright?
No. Receiving a local copy does not transfer copyright or ownership.
Can I repost another creator's content?
Permission or another valid legal basis may be required before reposting, editing, distributing or commercially using another creator's media.
What is the simplest permitted use case?
Your own media or content you clearly have permission to save and use is the simplest case.
