Green activity indicator
Instagram can display a green activity indicator for an account that it currently reports as active.
Instagram active status can indicate whether an eligible account is currently active or was recently active in supported messaging contexts. You may see a green activity indicator, an Active now label, or recent-activity wording such as a last-active time.
Activity status is Instagram's way of showing online or recent activity to eligible accounts when the feature is available and the relevant settings allow it.
A green indicator or Active now label generally means Instagram is reporting current activity. A recent-activity label can instead show that the account was active earlier. These indicators do not tell you what the person was doing inside Instagram.
Active now is an activity indicator associated with Instagram's messaging experience. It indicates current activity rather than revealing which profile, post or conversation the person is viewing.
Instagram can display a green activity indicator for an account that it currently reports as active.
The Active now label communicates a similar current-activity signal in supported messaging areas.
The status does not reveal which post they are reading, whose profile they opened or which screen is currently visible.
Instagram can also show recent activity instead of a current online indicator. The wording may describe how long ago activity was recorded.
A recent-activity label indicates that Instagram is showing an earlier activity time rather than saying the account is currently active.
People often use the phrase last active Instagram when they want to understand recent online-status wording in Direct Messages.
When activity information is available to you, check the relevant Direct Message conversation or messaging area for the status shown with that account.
Activity Status depends on Instagram's messaging context, account relationship and privacy settings. It is not a public online-status directory for every Instagram account.
The platform can use account activity to provide current or recent activity indicators.
Activity indicators only appear when Instagram's activity-status rules and the relevant account settings allow that visibility.
When available, Instagram may show a green indicator, Active now, or recent-activity wording in messaging-related areas.
IG activity status, active status Instagram and Instagram active now all refer to closely related questions about Instagram's online and recent-activity indicators.
Searches phrased as Active Now Instagram usually refer to the same current-activity indicator rather than a separate Instagram feature.
A current indicator communicates that Instagram is reporting the account as active at that time.
A timestamp or recent-activity label communicates an earlier activity state instead.
If no status is visible, that alone does not prove that the person is offline.
A missing activity indicator can have more than one explanation. It should not automatically be interpreted as proof that someone is offline.
The relevant activity-status setting can prevent online or recent activity information from appearing.
Instagram does not display activity information as a public status for every account relationship or context.
Online-status information describes activity visibility, not what a person is doing or why a status is missing.
