Open your Instagram profile
Open Instagram and go to your profile, then open the main menu.
You can disable Instagram's activity-status setting if you do not want your current or recent activity indicator shown through supported messaging features. The setting is usually found under Messages and story replies in current Instagram app versions.
Open your Instagram profile, open the menu, then go to Settings and activity. Open Messages and story replies, choose Show activity status, and switch the setting off.
Instagram can change menu names or placement between app versions. If the wording on your device is slightly different, look for Show activity status inside the messaging or interaction settings.
The current app path is short, although wording and menu placement can vary slightly between Instagram versions.
Open Instagram and go to your profile, then open the main menu.
Enter Instagram's settings area. In current app versions this is commonly labelled Settings and activity.
Find the messaging interaction settings and open Messages and story replies.
Select Show activity status to reach the setting that controls whether your current or recent activity is shown.
Disable Show activity status. Instagram normally saves this account setting without requiring a separate save button.
IG active status and Instagram activity status refer to the same visibility setting in this context. You do not need a separate tool to change it.
Activity status can be used by Instagram to indicate that your account is currently active in supported messaging contexts.
Instagram may also show recent-activity wording rather than only a current online indicator.
Turning the setting off controls your activity-status visibility rather than changing your posts, followers or profile content.
The setting affects online and recent-activity visibility. It does not delete your account, conversations or Instagram content.
People covered by Instagram's activity-status feature should no longer see the normal current or recent activity indicator for your account.
When your activity status is disabled, Instagram also stops showing you other accounts' activity status through the same feature.
Turning off this setting does not remove your posts, followers, Stories or existing conversations.
Disabling Show activity status is intended to hide the normal activity indicators associated with this setting, including the online indicator shown in supported Instagram messaging areas.
The green online indicator is part of Instagram's activity-status experience rather than a separate profile privacy mode.
Recent-activity timestamps or labels controlled by activity status are also affected when you disable the setting.
Activity status describes online or recent activity. Other messaging indicators can use different settings and should not be treated as the same control.
Instagram changes its interface over time, so the surrounding menu label may not look identical on every device or app version.
In current versions, Show activity status is commonly located under Messages and story replies.
An older interface may use different wording or menu placement. Avoid assuming that screenshots from an older guide match your current app exactly.
If Instagram provides settings search in your version, look for Show activity status rather than relying only on an old menu path.
This page focuses specifically on disabling the setting. Questions about what Active now means, last-active visibility and how the feature works belong to ReelDown's broader active-status guide.
Use this page when your goal is to turn the activity-status setting off.
What activity status means, and how accurate it is, are covered in separate guides.
