Open the account's profile
Search for the username or open the profile from somewhere else in Instagram.
Instagram lets you reverse the content mute settings you previously applied to an account. Open the person's profile, use the Following menu, then change the enabled Mute controls for the content you want to see normally again.
Open the Instagram profile of the account you muted, tap Following, then Mute. Turn off the mute controls for the content you want Instagram to show normally again.
Posts and other available content categories can have separate controls, so check which options are currently enabled instead of assuming every category was muted together.
If you already know which account you muted, its profile is the clearest place to manage the setting.
Search for the username or open the profile from somewhere else in Instagram.
Open the Following menu on the profile. Opening this menu does not unfollow the account.
Open Mute to see which content controls are currently enabled for that account.
Disable the mute setting for each content category you want restored. Instagram can change the exact interface between app versions, but the account's Mute controls remain the setting to look for.
IG is simply a common abbreviation for Instagram. The account-level unmute process uses the same profile controls.
Open the profile, tap Following, choose Mute, then turn off the content controls you no longer want muted.
Use the person's profile and open Following → Mute. Restore the content categories you want to see again.
Find their profile, open the Mute settings from Following, and disable the active mute options.
The setting is managed per account, so there is no need to unfollow and follow someone again just to reverse a content mute.
If multiple content categories were muted, you can change only the ones you want restored.
Reversing a mute setting does not require changing whether you follow the account.
Instagram does not send the other account a direct notification announcing that you changed your mute preference.
If only feed posts were muted, you can restore that category without changing unrelated account settings.
Open the account's profile, tap Following, select Mute, then turn off the Posts mute control.
After the Posts control is restored, future posts from that account can appear normally in your feed again. Feed ranking still determines what Instagram actually shows and when.
Current Instagram versions can provide a Muted accounts area in settings. Menu wording and placement can vary between app versions.
Open Instagram settings and search for the Muted accounts control if you cannot remember which profile you changed.
Once you identify the account, review its enabled mute categories and restore only the ones you want.
When you already know the account, going directly to its profile usually avoids unnecessary navigation through settings.
The content categories you restored become eligible to appear normally again. Unmuting does not guarantee that a particular post will immediately appear in your feed.
Future content from the restored category can return to your normal Instagram experience.
Instagram decides which eligible posts appear and in what order, so restoring a mute does not force every post to the top of your feed.
A category you leave muted remains muted until you change that setting separately.
